Autism Assessments
BASE offer diagnostic assessments for children, young people and adults using a gold standard approach.
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) is an established clinical diagnosis encompassing challenges in social interactions, social communication, and social imagination. The diagnostic assessment employs a blend of clinical interviews, observations, historical reports, and standardized tests to ascertain whether an individual meets the criteria outlined in the DSM-V for ASC. Additionally, the assessment aims to identify and evaluate the presence of other potential diagnoses that may contribute to the observed difficulties or symptoms.
To complete our assessment we use the ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview- Revised), which is a clinical diagnostic instrument for assessing ASC in children and adults, and the ADOS-2, a semi-structured, standardised assessment of communication, social interaction, play, and restricted and repetitive behaviours. It allows accurate assessment and diagnosis of ASC across age, developmental level, and language skill.
A diagnostic assessment for ASC at BASE meets National Guidelines for Excellence. As such, our assessments are recognised by schools and local CAMHS/NHS/statutory services. Find out more about the assessment process by clicking this link.
ADHD Assessments
This assessment involves various components to gather information about the individual's behaviour, attention span, impulse control, and hyperactivity.
An ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) assessment is a comprehensive evaluation conducted by qualified healthcare professionals to determine whether an individual meets the criteria for ADHD. We will use a variety of tools to screen and assess for ADHD which can include but are not limited to:
The QBCheck, which is an assessment tool designed by a team of clinical psychologists to objectively measure core ADHD symptoms and motor activity in children and adults.
The Conners 4, which is a self assessment questionnaire which provides a thorough assessment of symptoms and impairments associated with ADHD and common co-occurring problems and disorders in children and youths aged 6 to 18 years.
The ASRS v1.2 is a self-report scale that has been shown to correctly identify adults who meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD in both the general population and in a speciality treatment setting..
